The Wave That Was – Nassau 2013
In November of 2013, I stood on a quiet street corner in Nassau, Bahamas. The tourists had already gone home, and the heat of the day gave way to evening shadows.
There, on the wall of an abandoned storefront, someone had painted a massive wave. It wasn’t just art—it was movement, energy, defiance. And in front of it, an older Bahamian man sat quietly, watching the world pass him by. He didn’t pose, he didn’t smile. He simply was.
I took the photo, not knowing then what it would come to mean.
That block, like so many others, no longer exists. The mural, the man, the silence—all erased, torn down to make room for shiny hotels and resorts. Concrete and glass replaced cracked sidewalks and painted walls. Money replaced memory.
This shirt is a tribute to what came before. To the Bahamas that lived in the streets, in the people, in the art. To the moments you don’t find in brochures or resort ads.
Every time you wear it, you carry a story:
Of resilience.
Of change.
Of remembering what should not be forgotten.
This is not just a t-shirt.
